This page is our first point of information release for all trials updates. As this is a live page, new information will be added regularly throughout the trial period. We encourage you to check back to stay up to date with the latest announcements.
Updates will be posted here on the notice board and updated after every trial session, as well as via email.

Pre-Trial Registrations
The pre-trial is only for Boys U14, U16 and U18 who are not currently playing in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) with any club, and not currently playing in the Eastern Development League (EDL) for Eltham Wildcats.
Register for the pre-trial if you are a boy in the U14, U16 or U18 age group and any of the following apply:

If you’re looking to trial for Eltham Wildcats’ VJBL 2026/27 season please register below and select the prompt that suits you.
Pre-Trial – 15th September
The only age groups that will need to attend the pre-trial are Boys U14, U16 and U18.
The pre-trial is for players who are not currently participating in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) competition with any club. If you are currently a domestic-only player, and want to trial for a junior representative team, you must attend the pre-trial.
If you’re selected from the pre-trial, you’ll be notified via email close of business Friday, 18 September.
VJBL Full Trials – starting from October 4th
Each week of the trials, players participate in two separate sessions:
Sunday sessions – an on-court, drill-based session. Players are organised into smaller groups (named by colour – e.g. blue, green, orange) and put through skills and small-game sessions by trial coaches.
Friday sessions – “trial games”. Players are assigned trial game squads and play trial games on Friday nights.
Under-20s trials will differ — more information coming soon.
Eltham High School – Courts 1, 2 & 3

Referred to as: EH1 or EHS1
Montmorency Secondary College – Courts 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5
Address: 27 Simms Rd, Montmorency VIC 3094
Referred to as: EMM1, 2, 3, 4, 5
If your child cannot attend, or participate due to injury, in a trial session, send an email below with your child’s name, age group, reason for absence and which trial they cannot attend. We advise attending as many sessions as possible to receive the best possible selection assessment.

Players are grouped according to age. Age groupings for the 2026/27 season are as follows:

Players who are currently playing for, or have previously played in, a VJBL competition with another club and wish to obtain ‘Permission to Train’ (PTT) at another association must complete and submit the correct form before trying out with a new association. You can find the ‘Permission to Train’ (PTT) form on Basketball Victoria’s website linked below. Associations have 5 business days to approve the request.
Please note: Basketball Victoria is responsible for opening the Permission to Train Form, and will do so in time for trials. We as a club can not make this form available.

To obtain a clearance for the 2026/27 VJBL season, contact the association you are moving to for a ‘Club Registration Link’. Once you have this link, register using your PlayHQ account to start the clearance process.
We have more information coming soon for those in Under-20s wishing to trial. In the meantime, please still register via the registration tab, and we’ll update the website once dates are confirmed.

The course below is a Competition Coach Pathway course — one of several accreditation levels offered by Basketball Victoria. It’s run by Basketball Victoria, not the Eltham Wildcats; we’re simply hosting this session as a convenience for our coaching community. If you cannot attend, this course can also be completed at other times and locations — visit Basketball Victoria’s Coaching Courses & Accreditation page for alternative sessions.

Coaches must complete both the online and practical components to finish the course. The online training link will be sent after you register.
Why Accreditation Is Required
Basketball Victoria requires all coaches in any Basketball Victoria–run league to complete mandatory coach education training. Completing this training earns coaches a nationally recognised Basketball Australia accreditation, along with a certificate and resources to support their ongoing development.

We understand that parents and guardians are invested in how their children perform throughout the trials process.
Friday night games
Parents/guardians are permitted to watch from the sidelines.
Sunday trial sessions
Parents/guardians are permitted to watch from foyer areas of the stadiums.
We ask that you refrain from coaching, directing or communicating with players during the sessions. This allows all players to perform in a consistent environment and gives selectors the best opportunity to assess each player fairly.
Please wear your Eltham uniform (domestic or championship) to sessions. If you don’t have an Eltham uniform, wear a light/dark reversible top. In addition, bring anything you would to a game:
The Eastern Development League (EDL) is a regional competition that bridges the gap between domestic and representative level basketball. It’s designed for athletes who were not selected for a Junior Representative team, giving them an addtional pathway to continue pursuing development at the Wildcats.
