Eltham Wildcats 74 defeated by Waverley Falcons 82
S. Whelan 19 points, J. Aver 16 points, S. Bradbury 14 points/7 rebounds
The Wildcats came out firing on Sunday jumping out to an early 8-0 lead but the Falcons soon showed their class going into the quarter time break up 29-17. Waverley’s zone defence would be a factor holding the Wildcats shooting to 7-34 from behind the three point line and turning it over 20 times.
Sam Whelan and Justin Aver were among the best for the Wildcats.
Senior Women
Eltham Wildcats 58 defeated by Southern Peninsula Sharks 76
S. Creed 17 points/5 rebounds/4 assists, A. McBean 11 points, O. Bontempelli 10 points
After playing a great first quarter the Wildcats only managed to score 5 points in the second quarter going into the halftime break down 21-42. Eltham bounced back outscoring the Sharks in the third (24-19) behind the three point shooting of Sam Creed and the inside presence of Liv Bontempelli. Unfortunatley it wasnt enough as the visitors escaped with the win.
Youth Women
Eltham Wildcats 66 defeated Chelsea Gulls 57
J. Daoud 13 points, E. Horsley 11 points/ 12 rebounds, K. Ferronato 11 points
The Wildcats dominated the second half outscoring the visiting Gills 38-26 to earn their first win of the season. Eltham dominated the paint amassing 67 rebounds and scoring 44 points in the key. The Wildcats bench also scored 26 points which is a great sign for the group to come.
Youth Men
Eltham Wildcats 81 defeated Diamond Valley 76
T. Clifford 21 points, C. Yammouni 16 points, M. Scherf 11 points
A huge win on the road against local rivals Diamond Valley on Saturday night have our Wildcats now 4-1 in their conference. Scores tied with only two minutes and change remaining in the fourth quarter the Wildcats locked down on the defensive end only allowing two points while netting six of their own including two clutch free throws by Yammouni to seal the game. Coach Greg Jeffers applauded the depth of the group “our depth was the difference in the end”.
