You couldn’t seperate both squads after the first two quarters with a 31-31 score line at the main break. The third quarter was the complete and utter difference in the game as Eltham were unable to convert on their shooting only scoring three points for the whole period while the Cavs netted 13 of their own to gain a 10 point advantage going into the final quarter of the game. Casey were able to hold onto the lead in the fourth despite the numerous efforts from the Wildcats who kept fighting and trying to get back into the game.
Coach D’Wayne Hogan reflected on the game.
“They changed up their defence to a zone in the third period and we just couldn’t execute against it.”
“Our defence was great and created a lot of turnovers. Credit to them they hit some tough shots with a hand in their face. On inside – outside action in offence was great when we executed it.”
The Youth Women look to bounce back this Sunday when they take on the Camberwell Dragons at 1pm at Balwyn High School.

An overtime thriller on Sunday afternoon between the Eltham Wildcats and top of the ladder Bulleen Boomers at Eltham High School in a contest that went down to the final plays.
After a tied first quarter the Boomers kicked away from the Wildcats in the second period outscoring the home team 28-15 behind the brilliant play of O. Foxwell (27 points) combined with sloppy Wildcat turnovers which lead to 15 points for the visitors.
Down by 13 at halftime the Wildcats came out re-energised in the third and fourth periods changing up their defence and utilising their height by grabbing 20 offensive rebounds, scoring 19 second chance points as O’Connor and Magbegor reeked havoc in the paint for Eltham. The Wildcats fought their way back into the game and had opportunities to win the contest but neither team converted forcing 5 more minutes of overtime play.
Sam Whelan came up big in overtime scoring or assisting on nearly all of the 11 points for the Wildcats as the game went back and fourth the whole overtime period. T. O’Connor knocked down two crucial free throws with twenty seconds remaining to go up one point (85-84) forcing the visitors to call a timeout and and draw up a game winning play. The trademark Wildcat defence forced a shot clock violation to secure another win!
The Wildcats Youth Men take on the Knox Raiders this Sunday 2pm at the State Basketball Centre.
