The 2019 Big V Awards Presentation was held on Saturday night at the Melbourne Pavilion in Kensington highlighting an incredible season for our Youth Men’s team.
Christian Yammouni was awarded league MVP where he averaged 17.3ppg/4.7rpg/3.8apg. The electric combo guard was also named in the Victorian Youth Championship Men’s All Star Five Team.
“I am very honoured and grateful for the recognition this season. Thank you to all my teammates, coaches and past teammates/coaches that made this possible for me. Appreciate everyone, thank you.” said Yammouni.
Tom Clifford was named Defensive Player of the Year while Craig Stratford received the Coach of The Year award after leading his team to a league best 19-3 record.
“Taking over coaching reigns of the runners up in 2018 from Greg Jeffers (last years recipient of the VYCM Coach of the Year) was always going to be both challenging and rewarding. The 2019 season proved to be exactly that.
“I want thank the Eltham Basketball Club for investing in Eltham coaches, allowing us to work such with this group of quality young men who have clearly demonstrated they have the talent, desire and dedication to play a high standard of basketball. After getting close but not quite across the line for the second year straight it was great to see two of our guys in Christian Yammouni and Tom Clifford be acknowledged with awards for the great seasons they had.
“I am proud to be the recipient of this year’s Youth Championship Men’s Coach of the Year award and want to thank our coaching/support staff of Chris Cameron, Paul Maley, Justin Wyncoll, Danielle Oaten and Brett Cole, with all making important contributions establishing our style of game play and in creating the positive team environment we enjoyed this season. I would also like to thank Aaron & Katrina at Air Fusion Heating & Cooling and all our partners that have contributed to an amazing year,” Stratford said.
