The Eltham Wildcats are excited to announce the re-signing of American Import Chelsie Schweers for the 2020 NBL1 season.
The sharp shooting guard was fourth in the league in scoring in 2019 where she averaged 23.1 ppg while shooting 48% from the field which included a season high 41 point game against the Southern Sabres.
The Virginia Beach native fast became a fan favourite in Eltham with her style of play and passion for the game which accumulated a lot of support for her and the women’s team.
Schweers is passionate about sharing her love for the game as Eltham Wildcats CEO Greg Jeffers explains.
“Chelsie is a fantastic player but we are even more impressed with what she has done for our club and members off the court. She is always willing to coach clinics, camps, run individuals, meet sponsors, speak at functions and spend time with our junior players.
“A positive role model for girls in our community and one exciting player to watch on the court this is another exciting announcement for the Eltham Wildcats.”
Returning for her second season as a Wildcat Chelsie is ready to get back to work.
“I’m looking forward to coming back to Eltham to continue building on what we started last season,” Schweers said.
Head Coach Grant Spencer praised Chelsie’s attributes and believes she will be even better next season.
“To have Chelsie return for the 2020 was a priority for the club as soon as the 2019 season ended. She was such a positive influence both on and off the court.
“She single handedly kept us in games last season with her ability to score in big bunches. She was entertaining but at the same time played with an energy and seriousness a coach loves. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Chelsie take her game to another level in 2020.”
Chelsie will join previously announced players Anneli Maley, Lily Scanlon and Erin Riley in the elite stream of high level basketball in Melbourne’s north-east. Stay tuned for more announcements to come.
