The Wildcats have re-signed the talented young duo of Sian Gillam & Sam Whelan for the 2019 inaugural Elite League season.
Gillam will play her second season at Eltham after previously playing with the Bulleen Boomers and Diamond Valley Eagles. The athletic guard/forward can do a little bit of everything and will bring great energy on both ends of the floor. An enthusiastic Gillam is looking forward to what the Elite league will bring.
“I am excited about taking another step up with the new league and challenging myself”.
Newly appointed Head Coach Grant Spencer believes Sian can contribute both on and off the court.
“It is fantastic to have Sian back from last year. She is a very capable shooter and hard worker. She will help drive the Eltham culture with the group which is important for us”.
After starting in the point guard position for the Wildcats in 2018 Sam Whelan is primed and ready for a breakout 2019 season. Averaging 42% from the field last year the lights out shooter can fill it up and will play a key role in the Wildcats team in 2019 according to Coach Trev Lee.
“Whelan is a great young player, he continues to improve day in day out and will play a pivotal role for us this this season. We are very excited to see him back ready to take the next step in the new league”.
Whelan has been vigorously working on his craft this off season and is chopping at the bit to get the season underway.
“I am super excited to be back with the Wildcats in 2019 and looking forward to making some noise in the new Elite League”.
The new Elite League is set to tip off in late March, stay tuned for more player announcements and Wildcat Membership details.
