After a successful NBL1 debut in 2019 the Eltham Wildcats Women have added Cairns junior Teyla Evans to the line up.
The 25-year-old shooting guard has previously played for Sandringham and Albury in the SEABL, was a development player with the Dandenong Rangers WNBL team in 2014/15 and played for Cairns & Rockhampton in the QBL. Evans played with Hume City last year in the Big V where she averaged 11.15ppg, 6.75rpg and 1.5apg while finishing top 3 in shot blocking for the entire league.
Coach Grant Spencer believes the new signing will be a vital value add for the group.
“Very excited about Teyla joining us at Eltham. She is a talented basketball player who will give us added experience and leadership while having the ability to play multiple positions on the floor which will give us as coaches the flexibility to play differently.”
Evans is looking forward to the new challenges ahead both on and off the court.
“Firstly, really excited about the opportunity of playing in NBL1 and being able to grow on and off the court as well as creating strong bonds within the team to be successful.
“Coming into a club that’s building a new culture is always really exciting. Gives me the opportunity to have a role in shaping it and also learning from everything the coaches have to offer.”
Teyla will join previously announced players Chelsie Schweers, Anneli Maley, Lily Scanlon and Erin Riley in the elite stream of high level basketball in Melbourne’s north-east. Stay tuned for more announcements to come.
