The Youth Women struggled early on Saturday night as Frankston jumped to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter. The Wildcats couldn’t convert on their scoring opportunities in the first ten minutes only managing to score 8 points as a team for the whole period. Frankston would also win the second quarter giving them a 13 point lead going into halftime. Eltham would flip the script as they turned up their energy on the defensive end, contesting shots and not allowing second chance point opportunities for the Blues as the Wildcats outscored the visitors 12-4 heading into the final quarter only down 5 points after Keely Gray netted a 2 point jump shot to finish the period.
The Blues responded with a 6-0 run to open the fourth quarter then the Wildcats fought hard to cut the lead back to 8 points. Frankston were able to maintain the lead and hold on for the win.
The Youth Women head to McKinnon this Saturday to take on the Cougars at 4pm.

The Wildcats hit only 2 from their first 9 shots as the visiting Keilor Thunder jumped to an early lead in the first quarter. Eltham battled back early in the second period taking a 2 point lead but the Thunder responded quick executing on the offensive end and pushing the lead back out to 10. Every time Eltham cut into the lead Keilor found an answer including a 6-0 run to finish the quarter going into the break with a 12 point lead (34-46).
Keilor once again controlled the third period but Eltham rallied in the last quarter finally executing their offence and slowing down the Thunder’s scoring. Eltham would win the last quarter (29-16) as they got to within 5 points with 44 seconds remaining in play. Unfortunately time ran out and the Thunder were able to hold on for a 6 point win.

Eltham didn’t have time to stew over Saturday nights defeat as they hit the road to take on the Ballarat Miners on Sunday afternoon.
The first quarter would see both teams go back and forth with the Miners holding onto a two point lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Ballarat would continue to win the next three quarters and the game led by an offensive outburst by Z. Dunmore (26 points). The Wildcats were unable to execute on the offensive end shooting only 35% from the field and 52% from the free throw line while being out rebounded 47-57.
Eltham will be keen to get back on the winners list when they play at Nunawading this Saturday night, tip off 7:30pm.
