Eltham Wildcats 53 def Camberwell Dragon 51

The Wildcats Youth Women started slow in their first game back from the COVID lockdown as the visitng Camberwell Dragons jumped to an early 5-0 lead from the tip. Eltham battled their way back into the game with Anna Burrows netting a 2 point shot at the end of the first quarter to cut the Dragons lead to 5. The Wildcats came out firing in the second period scoring 10 unanswered points to take the lead en route to a pivotal 18-10 scoring quarter that would ultimatley be the differnece in the game.
Both the thrid and fourth periods were neck and neck as the Wildcats held a comfortable 9 point lead with 3 minutes to play. The Dragons then scored 8 points unanswered cutting the lead to only 1 point as the Wildcats hung on for dear life. Meg Stagoll netted a free throw to help secure the win in the final seconds.
Coach D’Wayne Hogan once again credits the teams defence in securing their third straight win of the season.
“Our adjustment in the second quarter on the defensive end was great. We lifted our intesity and energy which put them [Camberwell] under pressure.
“We also adjusted to their pressure much better while our offensive transition got our offence rolling.”
The Youth Women will head to Bulleen this Saturday night to take on the Boomers at 6pm in search of their fourth straight win to keep their finals chances alive. Spectators are still prohibited. You can watch the live stats via https://gameday.bigv.com.au/.

Eltham Wildcats 84 def Waverley Falcons 66

The Youth Men travelled to Waverley on Saturday night to take on Falcons in a must win game. The Wildcats started well but were outscored 29-16 in the second period behind the red hot shooting of the Falcons who hit 5 three pointers in the quarter to hold an 8 point (44-36) advantage over Eltham at halftime.
Coach Stratford preached effort and defence in the break and his players responded holding Waverley to only 22 points on the defensive end while netting 48 points of their own to win the game by 14 points.
Eltham Wildcats 107 def Bulleen Boomers 94
Top Performers: Z. Cunningham 25 points/16 rebounds, T. O’Connor 17 points, A. Bandilovski 16 points.
The Wildcats hit the road again on Sunday afternoon taking on local rivals the Bulleen Boomers in another critical game.
The first half set the tone in this high scoring affair as once again Coach Craig Stratford whispered those sweet words of success to his troops during the main break and they responded outplaying and outscoring the Boomers 28-13 in the third period then cruising through the fourth to secure their second win for the weekend to keep their finals aspriations alive.
