The Eltham Wildcats have added former SEABL guard Rachel Jeffery for the remainder of the NBL1 season. The 28-year-old grew up in Wodonga where she played three seasons with the Albury/Wodonga Lady Bandits in the SEABL and most recently for the North East Bushrangers in the Big V where she averaged 15.89ppg and 7.22rpg.
The 180cm combo guard is a former Big V All Star and League Defensive Player of The Year and will fill the perfect role for Coach Grant Spencer and his Wildcats.
“I’m athletic, hard working and will bring intensity on defence”, she said.
Jeffery is moving to Melbourne for work and is excited to be joining the Eltham Wildcats.
“This is an amazing opportunity for me to play at a high level. Eltham is such a well-respected club and I couldn’t be more honoured to be putting on that red and black singlet”.
Coach Grant Spencer believes the addition of Rachel to the team will pay dividends.
“It’s fantastic to bring Rachel into the group at this time of the season. We’ve been fortunate she has moved to Melbourne for work from Wodonga and chosen to play at Eltham to continue her basketball journey.
“She will add some depth to our guard rotation, she is long and athletic and a proven scorer at the Big V level so I am hoping that will translate into a solid contributor to our group”.
You can see Rachel make her debut this Sunday when the Wildcats take on the Hobart Huskies at Eltham High School, Women tip off at 12:30pm followed by the men at 2:30pm.
