The Eltham Wildcats Basketball Club invites registrations for our 2022 Junior Championship Trials. This is the representative program for junior players, which competes in the Victoria Junior Basketball Leagues (VJBL). Registrations can be completed here: CLICK HERE
Consistently Eltham is in the top 3 for associations in teams entered in the VJBL, but also for number of teams qualifying for the Victorian Championship division, restricted to just the best 20 teams in Victoria in each age group.
At this point in time, we cannot confirm the trial dates, however we will operate with the innovative trials process we introduced for 2021. Once we have clarity on opening dates for indoor stadiums then we circulate trial dates. To ensure you receive this information, it is important you register for the trials.
At Eltham, we conduct trials a little differently to others. Instead of having 100 children on court at the same time doing drills, we split the children into ‘trial teams’ and within those teams’ players receive the following over three weeks:
– Minimum of three (max of 6) team training sessions
– Minimum of three matches
– A coach that will lead all of the above across the three weeks
These sessions are overseen by our age group coaches who are then able to make team selections. In using this method, players are able to turn upto sessions, knowing who the coach will be, who they are training/playing with and getting the chance to show their skills in a team environment. From undertaking this process ahead of the 2021 season, we found it reduced significant amounts of anxiety and allowed coaches to learn who children were, ensuring the children were more than just a number on the leg.
We take great pride in ensuring we’re helping basketballers improve, but that we do so in an environment that whilst focused on helping players achieve their lofty goals, is one that players that can enjoy.
We do charge a $32 fee for trials, which covers the costs of the additional courts and referees required for our thorough process. We have maintained for well over 10 years one of the cheapest season registration fees amongst VJBL programs and this will be the same in 2022.
